Doug Sanford was born in north Texas just west of Chicago. His parents were dairy farmers with a few pigs and chickens. In the 7th grade they moved to southeast Missouri and operated a corn, soybean, pig, and beef cattle farm. Doug’s family moved to San Antonio during the summer before the 10th grade and went into the service station business. Doug found them by the time school started and eventually graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. He enrolled at Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. Doug enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served 4 years active and 2 years reserve. He attained the rank of Captain. Captain Sanford graduated from Texas A&M in the Centennial class of 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree, Animal Science, Beef Cattle Production. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1980 from Texas A&M. Dr Sanford acquired Fairfield Veterinary Hospital in 1982 and developed it into a state of the art practice. Dr Sanford is a Lifetime member of The Texas Veterinary Association, the American Veterinary Association, and the American Association of Beef Cattle Practitioners.
