The mission of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Polk County is to offer the citizens of Polk County quality, educational programs in the areas of Agriculture, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H & Youth and Community Development.

Polk County was formed in 1846 and named in honor of James K. Polk, the President of the United States at that time. There are 1,095 square miles in Polk County situated in the tall pine trees of East Texas. Livingston is the largest city in Polk County and the County seat. Other cities and communities in Polk County include Corrigan, Camden, Onalaska, Leggett, Dallardsville, and Goodrich. Polk County is also the home to the states largest Indian Reservation, the Alabama, Coushatta Indian Tribe of Texas.

Polk County is one of the fastest growing counties in Texas. Timber remains the counties primary industry followed by tourism/recreation, ranching, agriculture, and retail sales. Lake Livingston is a favorite recreation area for the county. The 93,000 acre lake offers vacation and primary housing, marinas, campgrounds, boat launches, and fishing piers.

Beef & Forages, Food Safety, 4-H Livestock Shows, Weed & Brush Control, and Home Canning are just a few of the program areas offered to the citizens of Polk County. The Polk County Extension Office is located in the County Annex Building on US Highway 190 East.

Extension programs serve people of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
