The Climate Trust Updated:04/2021

In 1997, The Trust was founded to assist new fossil-fueled power plants in complying with the Oregon Carbon Dioxide Standard—the nation’s first legislation to curb emissions of carbon dioxide. Building upon a legacy of innovation and leadership in the carbon market, The Trust took the next step in its evolution in 2016, establishing an investment fund for innovative, U.S.-based carbon offset projects.

The Trust is committed to staving off a disastrous rise in global temperatures by accelerating the pace of carbon mitigation through increased mobilization of conservation finance. We value air, water and soil through the development, purchase and sale of quali?ed o'sets and a relentless investment in people and projects with environmental purpose.

Since its founding, The Trust has committed $34 million in carbon financing for greenhouse gas emission reduction projects, managed 2 large-scale voluntary carbon programs, and has reduced 3.6 million tons of greenhouse gases–equivalent to carbon sequestered by 3,390,444 acres of U.S. forests in one year. The Trust’s diverse and innovative project portfolio includes 53 projects in eight sectors, which are anticipated to mitigate 5.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in years to come.
